Australian artist Vanessa Ashcroft, creates the extraordinary from the ordinary. Her paintings are exciting and unique. Using a variety of mediums and mixing different materials on canvas, wood, aluminium and paper makes for striking images. Acid, plastic scrapers, sand and wall filler are all amongst the unorthodox materials in Vanessa’s paint box, that are skilfully manipulated into evocative, memorable artwork.

Exploring mood, texture, colour and light, Vanessa’s art challenges traditional boundaries. From works on metal, through to nude paintings, landscapes in oils on canvas and her more abstract art, Vanessa has something for everyone’s taste. Unique paintings that are true conversation pieces with the power to draw in the viewer, strike a personal chord and leave you wanting more.

Artist’s Statement

‘Living in the National Park, in the hamlet village of Patonga, I am surrounded by the natural beauty of waterways and bushland that continually inspire my practice. I am drawn to the minutiae, the colours, tones, textures, and shifting light. The quiet emotion that connects us to a memory, a moment, a place in time.

‘My work doesn’t aim to replicate nature, it is too intricate, too beautiful, too profound to be copied. Instead, I seek to evoke a feeling, a sense of presence and familiarity and nostalgia through abstraction, gesture, and sensitivity to form.

‘Each day, I challenge myself to grow, to explore new techniques, refine my skills, and deepen my understanding of painting. Art is not a destination but a journey, and mine is grounded in curiosity, discipline, and a deep reverence for the landscape that surrounds me.’
